Developer Interview # 3 – Lee Brimelow

This interview was in the works for a while but I decided to hold off till after MAX. Lee talks about his tutorials, MAX, and his career at Adobe. Enjoy!

First things first, are you still pissed off at Apple?

No not at all. My whole beef with Apple was surrounding their decision to ban all Flash-based apps from the store. But now they are not only allowing them, but are also promoting them as well. The recent example of Machinarium being chosen as the game of the week highlights this perfectly. Do I agree with everything they do? No of course not. But there isn’t a company out there that I always agree with.

How and when did you decide to produce video tutorials, and did you ever imagine they would become so popular?

When I first started it was an internal thing because people kept asking me the same questions over and over. Then I remember sitting at a Flash Forward … more…

Developer Interview #2 – Jesse Freeman

Here is my second developer interview. I’ll be rolling more out in the future but pretty slowly since I’m tailoring my questions to the developer at hand. So stay tuned for more.
Thanks again to +Jesse Freeman for taking the time to produce some great responses.

What projects are you working on right now and what are you using to build them?

I have been all over the place at Roundarch lately. I recently finished up a huge Flash project then went right into a native Android app and even had to help out on a custom WordPress project for the front end of an enterprise app. Outside of coding I am involved in pitches and research. There is a lot of mobile on my plate as well as HTML 5. Flash/Flex is not so common for me but people keep telling me it is still being asked for. I do try to pitch AIR for mobile when I get the chance since right now it is still the only multi-platform game in town that I feel comfortable with. Outside of that I always say go native but have even dabbled with PhoneGap a bit as a backup plan. … more…

Developer Interview #1 – Terry Paton

Terry Patton in IndiaTerry was kind enough to let me interview him on his inspirations and process in developing Flash games. Interviewing developers is something I’ve wanted to do for a while now and he really came through with some inspiring and thoughtful answers.
I hope you enjoy the interview, and please +1 this if you want to see more in the future.

For those who don’t know you, where are you from and what do you do?
I’m originally from New Zealand, a awesome but small country in the South Pacific, though now I live in Sydney, Australia. I make games using the Flash platform for multiple platforms and so far have made over 100 of them (101 I think is the current count, with #102 coming soon).

How long have you been developing games?
Over 7 years now, possibly 8, can’t quite remember, when I was around the age of 30. When I was 11 years old I tried making a few simple games on the (now ancient) computer I had, but sadly those are lost in time.
